This passage tells the account of John the Baptist's beheading. Herodias sprung a trap forcing the hand of her husband Herod Antipas to have John killed. John was God's messenger and it's a sober reminder that obedience to God doesn't exclude us from trial and hardship... it virtually guarantees it.
